Donations and bequests

Making a bequest

In making a bequest to the Friends of St Mary of the Angels Charitable Trust, if you wish to be specific where your bequest is allocated we ask that you nominate in your Will how you wish your bequest to be used. We have a number of options you may wish to consider:

a.
For the Reserve Fund

You may consider that your total bequest goes to the Reserve Fund. The bequest you make will then be kept in perpetuity with only the interest from the bequest used towards projects. You can then decide on these options:

  • Reserve Fund but left "untagged" (the trustees then have the option to decide on which projects the interest from your bequest will support).
  • Reserve Fund for Church Restoration and Maintenance. The interest from your bequest will only be used on the Church structure and other Church projects.
  • Reserve Fund for General Parish Projects. The interest from your bequest will be used on presbytery, Church organ, stained glass windows, garden/lawn development and maintenance, etc, at the discretion of the trustees.

You also have the option of earmarking in your bequest for one, two or all three of the account options detailed above if your bequest is directed to the Reserve Fund, by specifying in writing the percentage of your bequest's interest you want to go to the options you nominate.

b.
A General Bequest to the Trust

If you prefer, it is completely acceptable for you to leave your bequest "untagged". When you do this the trustees will allocate the total sum you bequest to one or more of the following accounts:

  • to the Reserve Funding
  • to an account where your total bequest will be spent on the Church structure.
  • to a general account where the total sum will go towards various projects associated with the presbytery, the Church organ, the stained glass windows, the garden/lawns or such other projects as permitted by the Trust's constitution, as deemed appropriate at the time by the trustees according to requirements detailed in the Trust's annual budget plan, drawn up by the trustees for any particular year.

How to Make a Bequest

To make or update an existing Will you can consult your own solicitor, if you have one, the New Zealand Public Trust Office if a New Zealand citizen or a trustee company and let them know that you want to change or add to your Will details of a bequest to the Friends of St Mary of the Angels Charitable Trust.

If you have any queries or wish to discuss a bequest to the Trust further before including details in your Will you, or your solicitor, can contact either the Parish Priest or the Chairman of the Friends of St Mary of the Angels Charitable Trust. The current chairman's email address and/or phone number can be obtained by emailing or phoning the Parish Secretary or calling at the Parish Office.
