Guidelines for weddings at St Mary of the Angels

Congratulations

You have chosen St Mary of the Angels for your wedding.
May God bless you in your preparations.
May you enjoy long and fruitful years of happiness together.
The filling in of papers and questionnaires is all
designed to help you work for each other's happiness.

Marriage is a unique relationship - an exclusive and lifelong union of one man and one woman, which, of its very nature, demands total commitment and mutual fidelity.

Marriage is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church.

It is one of those special occasions, when, Christ in a very personal way bestows His grace upon your union.

Parishioners

A Parishioner is someone who regularly attends Sunday Mass at Saint Mary of the Angels and contributes financially to the Parish either through the Planned Giving System or by Direct Debit. In consultation with the Parish Priest, you may suggest a priest from outside the Parish to be the celebrant for your wedding.

Non-Parishioners

People who are not parishioners of St Mary of the Angels are welcome to use our beautiful Church for their Weddings.

Cost

  • The charge for the use of the Church is $600.00. A deposit of $200 is required on making the booking. The booking is not confirmed until the deposit has been received.
  • Payment can be direct credited to 02-0536-0003242-24. Please include your name and date of wedding.
  • Stipend to Priest: This is arranged between the couple and the Priest who is celebrating the Wedding.

Rehearsal

This is to be arranged with the Priest officiating at your wedding. Wedding rehearsals can only be held after 6pm.

Parking

The three metered parks at the front of the Church may be reserved by phoning 499 4444 and asking to speak to Parking Services at the Wellington City Council.

IMPORTANT

Archdiocesan Regulations for Wellington state that:

  • A Diocesan pre-marriage course must be arranged.
  • Normally three months notice of marriage must be given to the Parish Priest.
  • Pre Nuptial Enquiry Papers must be filled in as soon as possible - this also includes providing documentary evidence that you have received the Sacraments of Baptism & Confirmation.
  • You must give the priest the Civil marriage licence well before the wedding.

Flowers

Flowers for the ceremony in St Mary of the Angels Church are the responsibility of the bridal party and are not included in the cost of hiring the Church. However, you must contact Sr. Frances on 473 8074 during office hours to discuss any arrangements you may wish to make for flowers. If you wish to use the permanent botanicals available from the Church a donation to the Church is appropriate.

No confetti, rice or flower petals are to be used in the Church or on Church property.

Organ/Piano

It is expected that you will use the official St Mary of the Angels organist, however under special circumstances approval may be granted for alternative arrangements from the Music Director. There is a fee of $150 for the organist/pianist.
